Entry Level Certificate in ESOL International (Speaking and Listening) (Classic A2) 

The candidates of this qualification while not expected to be fluent, should be able to understand and use phrases that are considered to be of immediate relevance (e.g. Family Life, Hobbies and Pastimes, Personal details / experiences, Holidays)etc, Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. They should be able to understand short texts and be able to derive information from everyday objects like a street sign or symbol.

 This course is designed to be useful for students in their everyday lives.  The programmers are instructed to keep in mind the short-term needs of the candidate. On completion of this qualification, a student will be able to be better acquainted with the English language as per the reasoning of the student (for e.g. in their place of employment, college, childcare etc.)The candidates in this qualification will be taught to be better equipped with high-frequency words. They will also be able to write to communicate information with some awareness of the intended audience in documents such as Notes, Records, Emails, etc.

Aims

• The learners will be able to recognize the sound-symbol relationship and common letter patterns in words that are of real interest to them as individuals, working from a context. 
• Along with recognizing letter patterns, learners will also be able to excel in communication of everyday activities like being able to greet, respond to greetings, give personal information, ask for personal details, describe self and others and ask for descriptions of people, participate in short conversations on topics of interest, discuss everyday practical issues in a simple way, participate in a simple, direct exchange of information, including asking and answering straightforward questions.
•  They will also be able to respond to formal and informal requests to do something, make requests—ask for directions, ask for permission formally etc.
• There will be an exam on completion of the qualification.
•  This is a qualification that specifically focuses on speaking and listening. 
• The total guide time for the Speaking examination is 20 minutes, including an introduction read by the Interlocutor.

ASSESSMENT
This exam takes place with two Candidates and the Interlocutor present. Candidates’ performance is assessed in two categories, task achievement and overall linguistic competency. Candidates’ performance in this examination is assessed based on the number of correct answers they chose in each task. All of the questions across the assessment tasks are equally weighted.  The listening exam consists of three tasks responding to questions, short conversations and longer conversation.
