Level 2 Certificate in ESOL International (Classic C1)

Candidates undertaking this course are expected to have a solid grasp on the technicalities of the English language. So much so that he/she can express him/herself fluently without any major difficulties. They should be able to produce well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, read and understand complex texts of varying length on a variety of topics an must be able to understand lengthy, complex articles and reports and derive accurate meaning from them. They should be able to obtain information from sources like the news, fictional and literary arts, instructional texts, argumentative texts etc. 
At this level, Candidates are relied upon to have the option to compose an assortment of writings formed for various purposes and various crowds and mirror those in their decision of lexis, sentence structure and register.  

Assessment

Candidates’ performance will be assessed across two categories:  
Communicative Effectiveness and Overall Linguistic Competency – in other words, how well they used the language to respond to the tasks. 
The Listening exam and the Reading exam is timed at 30 minutes (each) and include 3 tasks. The writing examination has 2 tasks with an allotted time of 90 minutes to complete them.  
Candidates are examined in pairs. The Reading, Writing and Listening examinations at all levels consist of paper-based examinations.

• The Speaking examination consists of 30 minutes, including an introduction read by the Interlocutor. There are 3 tasks in total. 
• On completion of this qualification, a candidate will be able to understand the usage of adjectives and adverbs, Modals in the past, Modals of deduction and speculation, Inversion with negative adverbials, Narrative tenses for experience, active and passive forms.
•  The candidate will also be able to develop a clear understanding of simple, compound and complex sentences, with more than one subordinate clause, display an understanding of active and passive,  more complex participial clauses with “ing” and “ed”, more complex participial clauses with –ing and –ed, reported questions, using a range of verb form, Imperative + question tag, comparative clause, noun phrases of increasing complexity, fronting and cleft sentences for emphasis, use of a wide range of simple, continuous, perfect and perfect continuous verb forms, can use language flexibly and effectively, use of had + would/could/should have in conditional, etc.
• Candidate will mark an improvement in ongoing happenings like being able to fluently and clearly, ask for personal information, ask for descriptions of things, places, express definite and tentative arrangements in the future, use of a wide range of simple, continuous, perfect and perfect continuous verb form, reported speech, using a range of verb forms, grammar range and control, use of had + would/could/should have in conditional sentences.
